Dear Omar,

I live in Appleton, Wisconsin and a friend of mine just told me that the avocado season in Florida just started.

Is that true?

Just wondering……………………..

Great question Misty and perfect timing.

While technically the Florida Avocado season started May 16th of this year it truly doesn’t REALLY start until my favorite avocados, Donnie’s, start hitting the shelves at my local store. And that happens to be this coming Monday May 23rd.

There are over 50 varieties of Florida avocados with Simmonds, Pollock’s, Lula’s and Bernecker’s just to name a few. And many of the more exotic varieties like the Hardee (turn purple when the fruit is ripe) coming on line further down the season.

Did you know that avocados are the highest source of protein of any fruit? And the Florida avocado specifically has nearly half the fat content of the Hass avocado??? Not as good for making guacamole (so they tell me) but nothing that a little bit of olive oil can’t fix!!

But Misty, don’t worry because here at M & M we sell both the Florida avocado and the Hass avocado so no need to choose. The Florida season runs all the way through November past Thanksgiving and the Hass is year round so we have you covered.

Got to go now as I’m being asked about dragon fruit and that season starts now as well. Busy summer season in Florida is just starting!!!!!!!

Thanks for reaching out to us about Florida avocados and feel free to ask me any questions you may have about all Tropicals……………….M & M Farm has you covered!!!
